Registration
The Serbian Health Insurance Fund
(HIF)
launched a patient registration process where patients will
choose their own doctors. This will be part of a future
financial method of paying for primary health services
(capitation) through implementing the capitation’s formula.
Serbian Law on Health Insurance (Article 146) provides for a
chosen doctor who is qualified for at least one year in the
field of general practice or medicine of labour, paediatrics,
gynaecology and dentistry.
The chosen doctor will look after all the health necessities of
a patient, have regular contact with the patient, be more
familiar with his condition and be in a better position to
suggest preventive activities while providing quality health
services. For the patient it will be much easier to access the
doctor, they can make appointments for medical check-ups by
phone, as well as get regular prescriptions and adequate advice
from their doctor (via a special ID number that will be issued
after registration).
You choose your doctor in the Dom Zdravlja (DZ) in the area of
the municipality where a branch office of the
HIF
(the one that issued your health record) is based or where you
live (even if only temporarily).
The DZ must publicly display a list of doctors available for
registration through the chosen doctor scheme. You (as the
patient) are expected to select one of the doctors from this
list and to register with them by filling in a form. The form
can be obtained from DZ representatives and you can see it by
clicking
here.
All you need to register is your health documentation and ID
card. Children can register with their chosen doctor by their
parents providing this documentation on their behalf.
The chosen paediatrician will take care of children younger than
18 years.
Adults can choose their own general practicing doctor or labour
doctor.
Girls younger than 15 years and women should register with a
chosen gynaecologist too.
Those younger than 18 and older than 65 should also choose a
dentist.
Please have a think about your health and choose your doctor!
